This year, The Road Theatre Company was honored by the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle with the award for Best Season 2024— a celebration of the artists, audiences, and stories that make our community thrive.
That spirit of creativity and connection carried into our Summer Playwrights Festival, which received a record number of submissions and became one of the largest new play festivals in the country. But the true milestone came behind the scenes: for the first time, every reading was presented with open captioning, welcoming our Deaf and Hard of Hearing audience members to fully share in the experience. The response was extraordinary. Audiences called it lifechanging. Playwrights, actors, and community members alike shared how meaningful it was to see inclusivity in action.
For this Giving Tuesday, we’re asking our community to help us expand our commitment to accessibility and inclusion—so that everyone can share in the transformative experience of live theatre.
Your contribution will help us take the next steps by funding:
✨ Expanded captioning and subtitling for all readings and performances.
✨ American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters for talkbacks and community events.
✨ Audio description services for blind and low-vision audience members.
✨ Dedicated accessibility staff to help us implement and sustain these programs.
At The Road, we believe that great theatre should be accessible to everyone.
Your gift helps us continue building a space where every audience member can see, hear, and feel the power of live performance.
Join us on the road toward a more inclusive future.
For 34 years, The Road Theatre Company has been deeply invested in our North Hollywood community and the neighbourhood’s revitalization. The mission of The Road Theatre Company is to present plays not previously available to the Los Angeles public that introduce socially and politically relevant voices and perspectives to the American stage and to make the world of theatre available to youth, limited-income seniors, those that are differently abled, and other underserved audiences. Through our main stage productions, workshops, classes, presentations, and free readings The Road strives to further establish our resident company as a leader and champion of new works in Los Angeles and the nation.
