On Thursday, August 28 and Friday, August 29, Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre will perform a new work, "Off the Top of My Head," at the Kunstakademie as part of the internationale tanzmesse in Düsseldorf, Germany. Heidi Duckler, along with staff and company members, began traveling to Germany last week, and are currently in rehearsals for the event. The piece will be performed this Thursday and Friday as part of 23 programs presented by 38 international companies. Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre is one of only three American companies performing.

"Off the Top of My Head" will animate the top floor and roof of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf's with a humanistic touch. Following a couple's journey from the interior hallway to the exterior space, Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre's piece will integrate the architectural elements of the historical space, complexity of identity, and
relationship between the two dancers into a choreographic journey from the interior hallway to the exterior terrace. Against the backdrop of the glimmering Rhein and Düsseldorf skyline, the audience will begin
lined against the wall of the long space, then travel with the dancers down the narrow enclave above the city. Drawing upon the visual art focus of the Kunstakademie, the internationale tanzmesse's platform for communication and networking, and Heidi Duckler's near 30 years of creative placemaking, "Off the Top of My Head" will invigorate this educational space with movement and music.

"Off the Top of My Head" will be the first to two projects abroad for Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre in the coming weeks, the second being Ocean's Skin, premiering at the Brisbane Festival in Australia this
September. "Not only do these projects help fulfill my love of travel, they also serve to expand the visibility of Los Angeles' creative culture and performers to other communities and art scenes around the world," beamed Heidi Duckler, Artistic/Executive Director of Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre, and choreographer of Off the Top of My Head.

Initiated in 1994, the internationale tanzmesse is a biennial marketplace and festival platform for communicating and networking in the field of contemporary dance. At the Tanzmesse, international dance companies and artists present their work live on stage and choreographers, dancers, agencies, presenters and cultural institutions network and present their work in a lively marketplace. The four-day event features 11 venues and over 160 exhibitions from 40 countries representing more than 400 dance companies. The Tanzmesse is a project of the Gesellschaft für Zeitgenössischen Tanz, based in Cologne, Germany.

"Off the Top of My Head" will perform on Thursday, August 28 and Friday, August 29 at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, Germany. For details, visit Heidi Duckler Dance here.
