Jillian, an ambitious geneticist, has learned something about herself. As she struggles with how this knowledge affects her life and the life of her daughter, she is brought on to conduct a study on diabetes in an isolated Native American tribe. Her research soon threatens to destroy the tribe's beliefs and sacred traditions. As Jillian's ethics and methods are being questioned, genomic breakthroughs are happening at a breakneck speed.
