Florida Rep to Present THE COCKTAIL HOUR This Month

By:

Florida Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce the opening of THE COCKTAIL HOUR, a hilarious and witty comedy that will have audiences shaken and stirred with laughter.

Written by A.R. Gurney, the author of Florida Rep's all-time biggest hit, Sylvia, THE COCKTAIL HOUR will play in the Historic Arcade Theatre January 8 - 27 with four nearly sold-out previews January 5-7.

The pre-dinner cocktail hour is a time-honored ritual at John's parents' elegant home, but when he returns to announce he's written a play about them, their calm demeanor dissolves. As the martinis flow so do the revelations and recriminations. Both hysterically funny and incredibly poignant, THE COCKTAIL HOUR is a comedy about how far one family can stretch the ties that bind them.

"After the unprecedented success of Sylvia in 2011, we are thrilled to bring you THE COCKTAIL HOUR, arguably Gurney's best play, " said Producing Artistic Director, Robert Cacioppo. "In addition to being a very funny play about a family in crisis, THE COCKTAIL HOUR is play about a family that loves one another, and I know that it will strike a chord with Florida Rep's audiences."

THE COCKTAIL HOUR features an all-star line-up of Florida Rep favorites, including Florida Rep Ensemble members, Carrie Lund (The Unexpected Guest), Brendan Powers (A Christmas Story), and Peter Thomasson (The Seafarer), as well as Kate Hampton (Social Security).

Florida Rep Associate Artistic Director, Chris Clavelli (One Slight Hitch, Tribes) directs the production, and is joined by an expert team of designers including set designer, Ray Recht (One Slight Hitch), lighting designer, Kate Smith (Murder at the Howard Johnson's), costume designer, Alexandria Vazquez (I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti), sound designer, John Kiselica (Split in Three), and production stage manager, Janine Wochna (Around the World in 80 Days).

THE COCKTAIL HOUR by A.R. Gurney plays January 8-27 in the Historic Arcade Theatre with four nearly sold-out previews on January 5 at 8pm, January 6 at 2pm and 8pm, and January 7 at 8pm. Regular performances are Tuesday - Saturday at 8pm, with matinees on Wednesday, Sunday and selected Saturdays.

Priced at $49/$45 and $29/$25 for discounted previews, single tickets are now on sale through the box office at 239-332-4488 and online at www.floridarep.org.
