Review: THE SAVANNAH SIPPING SOCIETY at The Off Broadway Palm

THE SAVANNAH SIPPING SOCIETY, playing in Broadway Palm's Off Broadway Palm Theatre, is a delightful tale about four women who transform from strangers to best friends through weekly gatherings on a Savannah verandah. Whether they're dealing with struggles in relationships, work, or simply the side effects of getting older, these women help each other through it all. This show was brought back to The Off Broadway Palm because of popular local demand, and after having the chance to see it, I definitely understand why.

The cast of THE SAVANNAH SIPPING SOCIETY consisted of Dianne Stone Fussaro as Randa Covington, Donna Schulte as Dot Haigler, Kelly Legarreta as Marlafay Mosley, and ML Graham as Jinx Jenkins, plus a brief appearance by Denyea Clarkson as Grandmother. These women have excellent chemistry together onstage; it felt like they truly became best friends, and their humor was outstanding. Every single one of them had multiple shining moments in this show, through both humorous points and more emotional ones. Graham's Jinx Jenkins guided the other women in the story, trying to help them recharge and restart their lives. I thoroughly enjoyed the evolution of her Review: THE SAVANNAH SIPPING SOCIETY at The Off Broadway Palm character and the revelation she came to at the end of the show along with the other women. It was a beautiful, touching moment, and it made the story feel very full circle.

I appreciated the progression of the show very much. Each scene transitioned to a different day in the story, whether it be one week or several weeks later, and the ladies would explain what had happened and what progress was made in their lives through either dialogue or short monologues. It was a very natural, smooth transition, and I really enjoyed it.

One of the most fun aspects of THE SAVANNAH SIPPING SOCIETY was seeing how the title of the show tied into the story; the women would have a different drink every time they came together on Randa's verandah, and it was quite entertaining seeing how it correlated with what they had just experienced in the story.

If you haven't seen a show in The Off Broadway Palm before, or if you happened to miss this show last time it was playing here, I highly recommend checking out THE SAVANNAH SIPPING SOCIETY. This was such a popular show last time, you'll definitely want to get your tickets as soon as possible. Don't miss this heartwarming, funny, charmingly Southern story!
