The Next Stage Directing Residency, a partnership with New York Stage and Film, gives one stage director a week-long creative residency during NYSAF's summer season in Poughkeepsie followed by a second week in New York City rehearsing a staged reading produced by NYSAF at the Drama League Theater Center. The recipient receives $5,000, up to four collaborators receive $950 stipends for the summer week, and Poughkeepsie housing and train travel are provided. It is intended for directors attached to a project for possible future production; the 2027 application opens September 2026.
