The FutureNow Fellowships pair a director and a playwright who apply together with a project to develop; two duos are selected each year. Directing Fellows attend Directors Project Week and the Carnegie Mellon retreat, then spend nine weeks in residence at Chautauqua Theater Company assistant directing mainstage work, joined by the playwright for five weeks that culminate in a public, designed workshop in the FutureNow New Play Labs. Directors receive $950 per week for up to 11 weeks (max $9,350) plus travel and housing; playwrights receive $425 per week from CTC. The 2027 application opens September 2026.
