Target Margin Theater is aggressively inclusive. We are especially committed to an ethnically diverse cast. Older and younger BIPOC and multi-ethnic actors are encouraged to audition. We also seek actors of all genders, sexualities, ages, physical abilities, and categories beyond what we know today! Experience with classical drama is helpful. We are an experimental theater company, and actors must be comfortable with unorthodox approaches and unusual treatment of text. We seek actors who are comfortable trying things without knowing why.
THIS IS REAL is a devised work based on the writing of Jean Genet. It will draw on multiple sources, including Our Lady of the Flowers, Prisoner of Love, The Balcony, and others. Our goal is to challenge our culture in the United States today with a spirit as transgressive as Genet’s. Company members should be comfortable dealing with issues of Sex, Power, Violence, and Bizarre Role Playing.
This will be an ensemble play. Cast members will need to be willing and ready to contribute to an open and inclusive process, and to adjust to the dynamic evolution of the piece. We will re-imagine Genet’s work in our contemporary American moment.
We are seeking two actors (any gender) to join our principal ensemble for a total cast size of 7. Actors will shift and share roles often, depending on the sections we choose for adaptation. As with any devised work, the shape of this will be largely determined by our collaborative process.
All other Tracks with the same breakdown have already been cast.
REPRESENTATIVE TRACKS 1 and 2 (note that these will evolve in our development process): any gender; Solange, Our Lady, Judge, Carmen, Roger, Irma.
