For this theatre production, our Creative Team is in search of unique artists with a willingness to collaborate on new work.
Note From Casting: In reference to the
BREAKDOWN
information – these are descriptions of the characters as identified in the script and in collaboration with the creative team. They are not meant to be exhaustive of who should play these roles and we seek to cast as expansively and authentically as possible. We are committed to inclusive representation of race, ethnicity, gender, body type, and ability. We also recognize that many characters in this show are written on the binary (use he/him or she/her pronouns) and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.SEEKING
WALTER & OTHERS (CAST) | Age: 74. A self-proclaimed fairy who secretly dreams of becoming a star in the Ziegfeld Follies. Lives alone in Greenwich Village and loves cruising, which has led to multiple arrests. A fabulist who often blurs the line between truth and fiction. This track will double as several minor supporting roles.
ABRAHAM & OTHERS (CAST) | Age: 55. A Jewish immigrant who lives with his wife, Dora, and their five children in a cramped Lower East Side apartment. Arrested during a police raid on a bathhouse, he is sentenced to 20 years in prison. This track will double as several minor supporting roles.
GRANVILLE & OTHERS | Age: 44. A Black, Southern-born, Harvard-educated man who helped establish the NAACP alongside his mentor, Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois. Fiercely ambitious and driven, he carefully constructs a persona that conceals his true self. Dreams of becoming a concert pianist and has been arrested multiple times in a subway restroom. This track doubles as several minor supporting roles, as well as GLADYS BENTLEY, the brash, no-nonsense manager of the Harlem speakeasy the Clam House. Authentically embodies a full spectrum of masculinity and femininity.
HUTCH & OTHERS (CAST) | Age: 41. A working-class grifter raised in the Bronx by his single mother. He's been in trouble since he could talk, but his irresistible charm makes it easy for anyone to fall in love with him. This track doubles as several minor supporting roles, as well as DORA, Abraham's smart, strong-willed, and fiercely loyal wife. Authentically embodies a full spectrum of masculinity and femininity.
PERRY & OTHERS (CAST) | Age: 27. A charming, affable Broadway chorus boy who lives on pipe dreams and perpetually falls for the wrong guy. Arrested only once, after his landlady caught him with his male roommate. This track will double as several minor supporting roles.
GENE & OTHERS (CAST) | Age: 23. A fabulous dancer and dynamic mover who grew up on the streets of Baltimore and hopped a bus to New York City at 15. Brash and unapologetic, Gene is equally at home in a dress or a tuxedo and has a mile-long rap sheet. This track doubles as several minor supporting roles, as well as DR. W.E.B. DU BOIS. Authentically embodies a full spectrum of masculinity and femininity. Strong dance and movement abilities are essential.
