BREAKDOWN
MAX BIALYSTOCK Male Identified, 50s Baritenor. Once the “King of Old Broadway,” Max is now a down his luck producer who realizes he can make more money with a flop than he can with a hit. Ensnaring Leo into his scheme, the pair set out to produce the biggest flop in Broadway history. Ruthlessly amoral, obsessed with sex, money, and success. The actor playing Max should wield loud, crass, over the top comedic chops.
LEO BLOOM Male Identified, 20s-early 30s Tenor. A mousy accountant with big dreams of becoming a Broadway producer. After seeing a lucrative error in Max’s books, gets swept up by his boss’s ambition to produce the biggest flop in Broadway history. The heart of the show, the actor playing Leo should have nimble musical comedy shops, an openhearted nature, and the ability to go to extremes- from finding first love, to panic and anxiety instantly.
ULLA INGA HANSEN BENSON YONSEN TALLEN-HALLEN SVADEN-SVANSON Female Identified, 20s-early 30s Mezzo with a strong belt. An aspiring actress form Sweden, whose gifts land her not only in Bialystock and Bloom’s show but as their secretary-slash-receptionist. Not afraid to flaunt what she’s got, whatever that may mean. The actor playing Ulla should have an unbridled personality, great comedic timing, oodles of stage charm, and be a great mover.
FRANZ LIEBKIND Male Identified, 30s-40s Baritone. The writer of Springtime for Hitler- Max and Leo’s intended flop. A Nazi enthusiast with an extreme temper and a nougaty center whose only joys are writing odes to Adolf and teaching his pigeon friends to salute The Führer. The actor playing Franz should have an outrageous personality with a gift for comedic reversals and move surprisingly well.
ROGER DEBRIS Male Identified, 40s-50s Baritone. The worst director on Broadway. Insists that he can fix Springtime for Hitler by keeping it light, keeping it bright, keeping it gay. By a twist of fate, ends up having to step in and play Adolf Hitler himself and his flagrant performance ends up making Springtime for Hitler a smash! The actor playing Roger should have a flair for the dramatic while keeping his performance grounded in reality- whatever reality he lives in.
CARMEN GHIA Male Identified, 20s-30s Tenor. Roger’s faithful “common-law assistant.” Outrageous and has, at his core, an honest devotion to Mr. DeBris. The actor playing Carmen should be a skilled comic actor with a strong stage presence.
MALE AND FEMALE CHORUS Male and Female Identified, All Ages. A giant Broadway chorus of great singers and dancers to play little old ladies, show girls, various character parts, dancing and singing Hitlers, Roger’s homosexual creative team, and pigeon puppets. Actors with strong tap skills a plus.
