SEEKING

For future replacements in the currently running KING AND I tour. Note: this is a continuation of the current tour, but will now be under the SETA Agreement.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief Rodgers and Hammerstein song showing range.
Those auditioning for non-singing roles should prepare a brief monologue, that is suitable to the period. Please bring sheet music (if applicable) and a photo/resume stapled together. A piano accompanist will be provided.

[KING OF SIAM]
Male, early 40’s-late 50’s. Character is Siamese, a powerful and elegant leader, struggling to bring Siam into the modern era without losing control of traditions and power. Baritone. PRINCIPAL.

[ANNA LEONOWENS]
Female, late 30’s-early 40’s. Character is English. Strong-willed, English schoolteacher who travels to Siam with her son to assume the duties of tutor to the royal household. Must be a strong soprano. PRINCIPAL.

[LADY THIANG]
Female, early 40’s. Character is Siamese, head wife of the King and mother of the Crown Prince. Steady influence in the court. Strong, discreet, and loving. Second Soprano. PRINCIPAL.

[LUN THA]
Male, mid-late 20’s. Character is Burmese, Emissary to the Prince of Burma, courageous yet doomed lover of Tuptim. Frustrated by his powerlessness. Baritone/tenor notes. PRINCIPAL.

[TUPTIM]
Female, early-mid 20’s. Character is Burmese, a gift to the King from the Prince of Burma, and doomed lover of Lun Tha. Beautiful, daring, and rebellious. Soprano. PRINCIPAL.

[KRALAHOME]
Male, late 30’s- early 40’s. Character is Siamese, Right-hand man to, and advisor of, The King. A strong traditionalist. Imposing, professional, and deeply loyal. To possibly understudy the [KING OF SIAM] PRINCIPAL.

[CAPTAIN ORTON/ SIR EDWARD RAMSEY]
Male, 40’s-50s. Character is English. Seasoned English seafarer who brings Anna to Siam. Also to play Sir Edward Ramsey- Male, late 30’s-early 40’s. Character is English, distinguished British statesman and old family friend of Anna. Non-singing. PRINCIPAL.

[LOUIS LEONOWENS]
Male, 12-15 years old. Character is English. Anna’s English son. Curious and bright, fascinated and challenged by the adventure in Siam. Alto. PRINCIPAL.

[PRINCE CHULALONGKORN]
Male, 14-16 years old. Character is Siamese, Crown Prince of Siam and one of Anna’s most vocal and opinionated students. Proud and admiring of the King. High Tenor or Alto. PRINCIPAL.
