BREAKDOWN

Seeking Adult actors 18+ for all roles.

[RONA LISA PERETTI]
(Female, 40s, Soprano-must have an A, Any Ethnicity) Putnam’s longtime spelling bee host and the number one realtor in Putnam County. A former Spelling Bee Champion herself, she loves children but can be stern when necessary. She thinks of this as a cerebral sporting event. Her interest in the competition is unflagging. (Also plays Olive’s Mom-a fantasy version at her ashram in India)

[VICE PRINCIPAL DOUGLAS PANCH]
(Male, 40s - 50s, Baritone, Any Ethnicity) Frustrated with life and awaiting a promotion, he was not happy to get the call that he was needed to substitute as host today. Though he finds the young spellers alien to him, he starts the day eager to redeem himself for past mistakes. Also, he is infatuated with Rona Lisa Peretti.

[MITCH MAHONEY]
(Male, 30s,Tenor, Non-Caucasian) who can riff well. An ex-convict, Mitch is performing his community service as a “comfort counselor” at the Bee. He hands out juice boxes to losing students with no idea how to offer comfort, but finds himself wishing he could make the kids feel better. (Also plays Dan Dad-laid back & ineffectual of Schwarzy’s fathers & Olive’s Dad-a fantasy version)

[CHIP TOLENTINO]
(Male, 18+ to play preteen, Tenor, Non-Caucasian) The reigning spelling bee champion, he expects things to come easy to him. Athletic, social, and a boy scout, he returns to defend his title, but he finds he’s been going through some weird changes that he did not expect. (Also plays Jesus-deity invoked by a speller in need)

[LEAF CONEYBEAR]
(Male, 18+ to play preteen, Tenor, Any Ethnicity) A second alternate, Leaf gets into today’s competition on a lark and finds everything about it incredibly amusing. Homeschooled and from a large family, he has severe Attention Deficit Disorder and spells words correctly while in a trance. Makes his own clothes. (Also plays Carl Dad-Schwarzy’s main trainer, intense & competitive.)

[LOGAINNE SCHWARTZANDGRUBENIERRE]
(Female, 18+ to play preteen, Alto/Belter, Any Ethnicity) The youngest speller, she is incredibly political, keenly aware of her surroundings, and driven by internal and external pressure. She wants to win to make her fathers’ proud. She is also somewhat of a neat freak and has a lisp.

[MARCY PARK]
(Female,18+ to play preteen, Soprano/Belt, Non-Caucasian) A recent transfer student who attends Catholic school, Marcy is a quintessential overachiever and comes from a family where excellence is expected. She speaks six languages, is athletic, and plays multiple instruments among her other talents. She keeps her problems to herself and is not allowed to cry.

[OLIVE OSTROVSKY]
(Female, 18+ to play preteen, Soprano/High Mix-Belt to an F, Any Ethnicity) A newcomer to competitive spelling, Olive loves words and spends time alone reading her friend, the dictionary. Words bring her comfort and are exciting to her. She spends some of the Bee looking to see if her father has arrived and dreams of her mother who is in an ashram in India. She starts out enormously shy and begins to blossom.

[WILLIAM BARFEE]
(Male, 18+ to play preteen, Bari-Tenor, Any Ethnicity) A finalist last year, he was eliminated because of an allergic reaction to peanuts and is back for vindication. Friendship surprises him today as he relies on his “Magic Foot” method of spelling that boosted him to spelling glory (even though he only has one working nostril and a touchy personality.)
