JAMIE WINTER
Jewish American photojournalist, 30s-40s (white) - smart, career-focused on war/refugee stories, fiercely independent, struggles with emotional connection, preferably dark/Mediterranean features. Actress should be comfortable and work well with children.

IBRAHIM MALOUF
Palestinian citizen of Israel radio journalist, 30s-40s (Arab/Middle Eastern, must speak/read Arabic) - a poet, father, and devoted son, very connected to his roots, excellent sense of humor

MOTHER
multiple roles as Jamie/Ibrahim/Waleed's mother as well as an aid worker, 60s (plays roles of eastern european and middle eastern descent) - strong movement/gestural expression, sharp edge/judgmental
