Purlie Judson: Black, Male, 30s. An ambitious preacher whose bravado allows him to gain the confidence of others. He is charming, clever, and extremely intelligent. CAST
Lutibelle Gussie Mae Jenkins: Black, Female, 20s. A young woman from the country who Purlie employs in his scheme. She’s brighter than everyone thinks she is and has a few tricks up her sleeve. CAST
Gitlow Judson: Black, Male, 40s-60s. A plantation worker with old school ideas, he is slow to work and quick to drink. Strong comedy background is a must. CAST
Ol' Cap’n Cotchipee: White, Male, 40s-60s. The plantation owner. He is a formidable man but easily fooled. CAST
Charlie Cotchipee: White Male, 20s. Cap’n’s guileless and witless son. He has different values than his father. CAST
Missy Judson: Black, Female, 40s-50s. A hard working, God-fearing woman. Wife to Gitlow. CAST
Idella Landy: Black, Female, 50s-60s. A wise woman who has worked for Ol' Cap’n Cotchipee for many years. CAST
The Sheriff: White, Male, 40s-60s. A small town Sheriff. Will cover the role of Ol' Cap’n Cotchipee. CAST
The Deputy: White, Male, 20s. A small town deputy. Will cover the role of Charlie Cotchipee. CAST
