Please prepare a short cut of a pop rock song or contemporary music theatre selection in the style of Duncan Sheik that shows off musicality and range. A piano accompanist will be provided. Please bring a headshot and resume stapled together.

SEEKING:

COLETTE: Female. 20. Any ethnicity. A sex worker at The Night Egg. She is whip-smart, funny, observant, and perceptive with a sparkling talent inside of her that she has not yet discovered. Due to her young age, gender and position in society though - she is often dismissed – and at best - pitied. But Colette doesn’t want your pity. She doesn’t even pity herself. In fact, she only has one weakness…she’s helplessly and head over heels in love with LEON.

LEON: 20s -30s. Male. Any ethnicity. A handsome, charismatic, smart, manipulative conman who is also Colette’s childhood best friend. Leads with charm and gets away with it. But Leon isn’t a one-dimensional monster. He just learned at an early age that life is cruel to those who are poor and weak – and he wants to win above anything else. He has a working-class chip on his shoulder and is fighting for the better life he knows he deserves.

SAKAE: 30s-40s. Male. Japanese native. An introspective writer who wants nothing more than to be a great novelist. Grew up rich. Currently wasting all of his parent’s money on sex tourism in France under the guise of research. He likes the idea of being a writer more than writing. He has a certain warmth though.

NANA: 20s-40s. Female. Any ethnicity. A beautiful, practical, educated, elite, and high-class call-girl. She’s so in-demand that she doesn’t need to work at a brothel- she works only for herself. She makes her own choices and her own rules. Nana genuinely loves her job and unapologetically uses her beauty and charisma to her advantage. She also doesn’t find sex work degrading. Nana unabashedly puts her own happiness and needs first - because she is aware of her own value in a way many people in the world are not (even men). She also has impeccable taste and standards in clothing, jewelry, style and all material things.

MADAME: 50s or 60s. Female. Any ethnicity. A no-bullshit, hardworking veteran of The Night Egg. She is ruthless but often cannot ignore her maternal instincts towards her girls. She tries to always put the house first despite her personal feelings though.

CARMEN: 30s. Female. Any ethnicity. Kind, charming, sensitive, romantic but driven crazy by the system. Britney Spears Instagram vibes.

MIGNOT: 20s or 30s. Female. Any ethnicity. Brash, funny, demanding, a queen. Hard-working. Cannot imagine a better job than the one she has.

IVY: 20s or 30s. Female or non-binary. Any ethnicity. Cool, calm, intellectual, collected, rational. Doesn’t mind her job though she finds it boring sometimes.

FEMALE ENSEMBLE MEMBERS: 20’s-40’s. Females. All ethnicities. To play several characters at The Night Egg (a no frills, lower mid-level brothel in 20th century Paris. If the Moulin Rouge is first class, The Night Egg is staunchly coach). Must be excellent singers and dancers. Some roles will understudy the roles of COLETTE, MADAME, NANA and CARMEN.

MALE ENSEMBLE: Male, 30’s. Asian. Must be an excellent singer and dancer with strong acting skills. Will understudy the role of SAKAE.

MALE ENSEMBLE: Male, 20’s-30’s. Any ethnicity. Must be an excellent singer and dancer with strong acting skills. Will understudy the role of LEON.

MALE ENSEMBLE MEMBERS: 20’s-40’s. Males. All ethnicities. To play several characters at The Night Egg (a no frills, lower mid-level brothel in 20th century Paris. If the Moulin Rouge is first class, The Night Egg is staunchly coach). Must be excellent singers and dancers.
