Breakdown
Set in the dismal slums of nineteenth-century London, OLIVER! follows the adventures of Oliver Twist, a resourceful young orphan. Forced from a seedy workhouse into pick-pocketing, Oliver finds himself caught in a tug-of-war with his family and the sinister characters he has met in the streets.
Please indicate if any actors are possible DC local hires. All roles open to all races and ethnicities.
SEEKING:
[FAGIN] Male, 40s-60s, any ethnicity. Cockney accent. Deceitful leader who runs a training academy for young pickpockets. A conniving, sly, con-man, yet very charming and personable. English musical hall comedian with a real dark, dangerous side. He has made a career out of training criminals and is obsessed with money. Must have excellent comedic timing and a strong character baritone voice. PRINCIPAL Please include “offer only” star names as well.
[NANCY] Female, 20s- early 30s, any ethnicity. Cockney accent. A former member of Fagin’s band of thieves and now Bill Sykes’ lover. She is devoted to him in spite of their abusive relationship. Naturally warm; protective of Oliver. She is gutsy and driven; longing for a better life. Raw, earthy, and street smart. Strong singer with a powerful, raw mezzo belt. PRINCIPAL
[BILL SYKES] Male, 30s, any ethnicity. Cockney accent. A villain in his prime. Worked for Fagin as a youth and now a feared master criminal. A brutal, harsh, abusive man that always puts himself first. Physically imposing and immediately intimidating. Good looking in a rough, weathered sort of way. Baritone. PRINCIPAL
[ARTFUL DODGER] Male, 18+ to play 14-17, any ethnicity. Cockney accent. A street urchin. Very energetic, highly personable, intelligent and savvy beyond his years. Fagin’s right hand boy. He is full of life and adventure and helps lead the gang. A dynamic singer/dancer with youthful energy. PRINCIPAL
