BREAKDOWN

All roles will be understudied.

Detective Hercule Poirot: Age Range 40-65; Dialect – Belgian. Iconic character. Agatha Christie’s most famous detective. He is finicky, detailed, a little ridiculous, incredibly observant, and intelligent. He values intelligence and the rule of law above all else.

Monsieur Bouc: Age Range 40-55; Dialect – Belgian. The owner of Wagon Lit, Orient Express. Young middle-aged man of good humor. Sociable and honest, he puts friends and clientele before profits. He is a ball of energy who suffers slightly from delusions of grandeur

Mary Debenham: Age Range 25-30; Dialect – English. An anxious English governess, who despite her youth has a sadness about her. She is having an affair with Colonel Arburthnot. Though she is beautiful, she is not to be underestimated, she is very good at keeping secrets..

Hector Macqueen: Age Range 26-35; Dialect – American. A young American. He is the personal assistant and secretary to Samuel Ratchett. Nervous and anxious, seems new to his post.

Michel the Conductor/Head Waiter: Age Range – 35-45; Dialect – French (Michel), Turkish (Head Waiter). Michel – Frenchman conductor for the 1st-class carriages of the Orient Express. Has a quiet, almost grave sense of humor. Well composed and excellent at his job. Doubles as the snooty Head Waiter of the Tokatlian Hotel.

Princess Dragomiroff: Age Range – 60-80; Dialect – Russian. A Russian princess who enters like a galleon in full sail. She is opinionated, arrogant, and used to getting her way. A true diva. Imperial and impatient.

Greta Ohlsson: Age Range – 30s; Dialect – Swedish. Plain, frightened and sheep-like. She is a Catholic missionary and baby nurse serving as a travel companion to the Princess. Has impressive comedic chops.

Countess Andrenyi: Age Range – 25-35; Dialect – Hungarian. Dressed to the nines in furs and diamonds. Her hair and makeup are impeccable, and she has a warm smile that wins you over immediately. She is out of a fairy-tale. In addition to being a Countess, she is a doctor. Matches Poirot in intelligence.

Helen Hubbard: Age Range – 45-60; Dialect – American. From Minnesota, she is loud, obnoxious, and has been married multiple times. Unapologetic. She is not what she seems. Sings and does some light dancing.

Colonel Arbuthnot: Age Range – 30s; Dialect – Scottish. Scotsman, very matter of fact. Having an affair with Mary. Military man, possibly from old money. Charismatic, but has some problematic views and a temper. Has good comedic timing.

Samuel Ratchett: Age Range – 40-55; Dialect – American. Businessman who is brusque, unforgiving, with a threatening demeanor, and a whiplash of a voice. The murder victim. May understudy Poirot.
