- [SARAH] (She/Her, 20–Early 30s, Black) The mother of Coalhouse’s child; despondent, discouraged, sensitive, vulnerable, but ultimately incredibly strong. Soprano.
- [MOTHER] (She/Her, Late 20s-early 30s, White) Upper middle-class New Rochelle housewife; gentle, compassionate, optimistic, struggles with the changes of society, but has an underlying strength and curiosity to tap into her courage. Mezzo Soprano Belt-Mix.
- [EMMA GOLDMAN] (She/Her, 30s-40s, Eastern European/Jewish) Feminist anarchist. Strong willed and intense. Alto Belt.
- [EVELYN NESBIT] (She/Her, Early 20s, White) Sexy starlet loved by all men, but smart enough to use it. Playful. She’s in on the joke. Soprano with Mix. Strong Dancer.

- [YOUNGER BROTHER] (He/Him, Mid 20s, White) Mother’s brother; an anarchist who is in love with Evelyn Nesbitt. Baritone.
- [BOOKER T WASHINGTON] (He/Him, Mid 30s, Black) Civil Rights pioneer. Baritone. Strong Mover.
- [GRANDFATHER] (He/Him, Late 50s-60s, White) Little Boy’s grandfather. Very outspoken. Baritone.
- [HARRY HOUDINI] (He/Him, 20s-30s.) Hungarian Immigrant. World famous magician. Tenor. Strong physicality and athleticism. An excellent mover or dancer.
