SISTER MEG, a nun and grade school principal. Sister Meg is an eccentric but committed Catholic educator with a broad tolerance for human foibles. She is devoted to saving her school, and maintains a benevolent if acerbic regard for her students.
FATHER DON, a Catholic priest and grade school teacher. Also BISHOP JENKO. Father Don is a beleaguered but devoted teacher, trying his best to keep his class under control. Bishop Jenko is a blustery church politician wanting to maintain the status quo.
MIKEY, 18+ to play 9 years old, a fourth grader and WANDA and RICHIE’s son. Mikey is a tough kid, but an imaginative leader, appealing in his honesty and straightforwardness.
BEATRICE, 18+ to play 9 years old, a fourth grader. Beatrice is the precocious leader of the three girls. She considers issues of right and wrong with deep, intellectual commitment. Sings.
FELICITY, 18+ to play 9 years old, a fourth grader. She is a good girl, torn between her loyalty to Beatrice and the conventions of the church.
YVETTE, 18+ to play 9 years old, a fourth grader. Yvette is an aggressive and determined liar with a comic vitality.
JOEY, 18+ to play 9 years old, a fourth grader, and Mikey’s best friend. He is the proverbial follower but will stand up for himself when pushed.
RICHIE, married to Wanda. Richie is a self-centered and deluded small town guy inspired by a big idea — saving his community, if not mankind, through porn. Macho in a rustbelt sort of a way.
WANDA, married to Richie. Also CLEMENTINE, a fourth grader, and LENA, an adult film actor. Wanda is imaginative, a bit eccentric, frustrated with her feckless husband, and emotionally attached to her son. Sexy in a suburban mom sort of a way. (Some singing)
DOUBLES: (Clementine is Wanda as a fourth-grader, determined to protect her son from what she perceives to be the highly sexualized atmosphere of elementary school, personified by Yvette.) (Lena is Polish, thoughtful, a little sad, but hopeful too. Sings a bit.)
