BREAKDOWN

PREPARATION INFORMATION:
To submit, please tape the assigned song in the folder at https://tinyurl.com/KismetMusical for the role you are auditioning for.

For the role of Caliph – please prepare both cuts of the song.

For the role Omar – please prepare either or both sides (no song). If you do not have someone to read the sides with you, please feel free to speak the lines without the other characters.

A note regarding self-tape quality: Please film your audition in front of a clean background, with no backlighting. As much as possible, limit ambient noise. We recommend you do not use Bluetooth headphones, as it can sometimes cause a delay in the audio. Use a secondary audio source to play the accompaniment music so that it is audible in the tape.

KISMET takes place in a fictionalized 11th Century Baghdad in a fantasy world of the Arabian Nights. KISMET tells a story with imaginary characters who belong to their own universe with its own laws and logic. This story, and all its characters, locations, and allusions, are the result of the authors’ admiration of the literary heritage of the MENASA cultures. This extraordinary heritage abounds in themes that blend tragic with comic, reality with illusion, prose with poetry, and we are deeply indebted to the literature that inspired this story and the characters in it. And further, we acknowledge our profound cultural responsibility in the re-imagination of those respected and beloved cultures that inform this fantasy.
