Strong Equity performers for HI-HAT HATTIE! and ELEANOR in the 2021-22 season (see breakdown).

All auditions and callbacks will be held electronically. These productions will only be produced if approved by AEA.


INSTRUCTIONS

Please submit electronically by noon ET on February 19. Slate your name at the top of the audition tape and upload videos to an Unlisted YouTube link for consideration.

For HI-HAT HATTIE: Please submit 32 bars of one of the following songs: AMAZING GRACE, DANNY BOY, CAN’T HELP LOVIN’ DAT MAN, or YOU’D BE SURPRISED. Sheet music can be found at https://www.floridastudiotheatre.org/casting

BREAKDOWN

HI-HAT HATTIE! by Larry Parr (Director TBA)
HI-HAT HATTIE! is a musical biography of that great American actress, Miss Hattie McDaniel.

HATTIE McDANIEL – female identifying, 30s-60s. A large African-American woman with an open, glowing face. A wonderful comedienne and actress best known for her portrayal of Mammy in GONE WITH THE WIND. Actress must also be able to sing.

Begins rehearsals: May 11, 2021
Previews: June 2 & 3, 2021
Opens: June 4, 2021
Closes: June 20, 2021
Possible Extension through: June 27, 2021


ELEANOR by Mark St. Germain (Director TBA)
ELEANOR is a one-woman show set in Rock Creek Cemetery after Eleanor’s death. A transformative piece of theatre that lives in the past and present, ELEANOR follows a journey through the joys and trials of the first lady.

ELEANOR – female identifying, 40s+. Must be able to look and sound like Eleanor Roosevelt in her later life, embodying her famous mannerisms and vocal quality. This actress will also step into the roles of various other characters through Eleanor’s eyes and must be able to distinguish all of them.

ELEANOR is still a piece in development with the playwright, as commissioned by Florida Studio Theatre for the Suffragist Project. The actress hired for this 2021 production will also be asked to participate in paid developmental sessions/Zoom readings prior to the full production.

Previews: December 8 and 9, 2021
Opens: December 10, 2021
Closes: March 6, 2022
