Breakdown
SHEILA
mid 30s to early 50s, Female. She’s a mother at the end of her rope. For years, she had to rely on being physically bigger than Nate, and now he’s getting too strong for his worst tantrums. She loves her children, both of them, but knows that something terrible can happen if she doesn’t do something drastic. She has had to grow hard to deal with Nate. In another life, sure, she’d be sweet, but not in this one. She struggles financially – Nate is an expensive kid to raise, after all.
NATE
15, Male. Sheila’s adoptive son. He strikes suddenly, without warning. His energy is impulsive and angry, not plotting – he really can’t control himself. He enjoys the power he gets when he’s sexually inappropriate. He wants to see himself as a hero, but he’s afraid that he’s actually a monster. Cursing comes naturally. A part of him loves his sister, and a tiny part is protective of her, but these are a eclipsed by the destructive impulses. We are open to submissions from actors who can play 15, whether or not they're over 18.
MIRI
7-9 years old, Female. She wants to be the “good girl.” A part of her knows how to trigger her brother, she knows how to hurt her mother, and she does. Not very often, but she does do it.
