BREAKDOWN

[HILLARY ST. GEORGE]
(43) White. She is the officious Associate Director of the Drayton Gallery. Hillary is brisk, almost too well groomed, superficially attractive, and quite sure that how she sees the world is the right way.

[MATT DRAYTON]
(67) White. He is an old style liberal Publisher of the progressive San Francisco weekly newspaper The Guardian. A strongly made, healthy-looking man in his sixties he is confident in his capabilities, energetic, and speaks with the forthrightness of an old newspaperman. Facing the possibility of his daughter marrying a black man exposes the discrepancies between his public and private politics.

[DOCTOR JOHN PRENTICE]
(37) Black. He is a well published medical research doctor. Brilliant, handsome, charming and cool. With the amazing Joanna he has found hope again after the tragic loss of his first wife and son in a train accident 8 years ago. Generational differences and deep philosophical divides threaten to tear his family apart.

STORYLINE:
A thought-provoking comedy of manners

Matt and Christina Drayton are a progressive couple living in San Francisco. It is 1967 when their daughter Joanna arrives home unexpectedly with Dr. John Prentice, an African American doctor 14 years her senior. They’re in love and they want the Draytons’ blessing for their marriage – today. The Draytons have prided themselves on their liberal-mindedness, but now they are forced to put their values to the test. Based on the iconic film, this classic is a witty and insightful reflection on two families confronted by their prejudices.
