Based on the movie, Finding Neverland tells the story of J.M. Barrie, the playwright who created “Peter Pan.” As Barrie struggles to find inspiration for his next play, his life takes a turn when he encounters a family, including the widow Sylvia and her four sons. Barrie’s relationship with the family deepens and he begins crafting the timeless tale of “Peter Pan.” The show explores themes of imagination, friendship, and the spirit of childhood, perfect for the whole family.
J.M. BARRIE (Male 30-40) - A successful Scottish playwright with a rebellious, childlike spirit that is entirely benevolent. He is at odds with the sensible, restrained world around him. Has an excellent pop/rock tenor voice, a sense of humor, and a genuine heart.
CHARLES FROHMAN/HOOK – Male, 50’s. A wealthy American impresario who has stood by Barrie for much of his career. Known as “The Napoleon of Drama.” Has an excellent pop/rock bari-tenor sound.
SYLVIA LLEWELYN DAVIES – Female, 25-35. A recent widow and mother of 4 boys, she encourages her boys to be free thinkers and is one herself. Has a strong pop/rock belt and mix as well as strong soprano notes.
MRS. DU MAURIER (Female Age 45+) - A socialite, patron of the arts, and mother of Sylvia. She holds social etiquette in high esteem and wants her daughter to do the same. Steely on the outside, perhaps to a fault, but wants the best for her daughter and grandchildren. She has a very dry sense of humor. Has strong alto voice with pop/rock sensibility.
MARY BARRIE (Female Age 28-40) – The wife of J.M. Barrie, she cares about the trappings of society. She and her husband do not share the same interest and live progressively separate lives. Has a strong pop/rock sound as well as strong soprano. NOTE: She will double into the ensemble for Act 2, plays a mermaid in Peter Pan.
