BREAKDOWN

DEATH BECOMES HER

SEEKING:

MADELINE ASHTON – 40s. A vain, glamorous star of stage and screen. A true diva. Desperate to stay relevant and deathly afraid of aging, she’ll go to any length to stay young and beautiful. But underneath all that Botox and filler, there’s a heart. Has excellent comic chops and a rich singing voice with a strong belt/mix and a clean soprano to C6, and a strong belt to C#5.

HELEN SHARP – 40s. Intelligent, dry, bookish. A loyal friend, sincere and honest, but with a dark side underneath. Madeline's oldest friend, she is a wannabe actress turned struggling writer. Dynamically comic, with a powerhouse high belt and a strong mix F#3 to F#5.

VIOLA VAN HORN – Ageless. An exotic beauty. Seductive and captivating, she gets what she wants by exploiting people’s fear of aging. She’s developed a beauty potion that she will sell… for the ultimate price. Powerful and mysterious with a sultry Shirley Bassey-esque quality. Powerhouse belter with a high belt/soprano mix to G#5.

ERNEST MENVILLE – 40s. Well-intentioned but malleable. A gifted cosmetic surgeon who uses his powers for good until he gets caught up in Madeline’s web and becomes an alcoholic, dissolute plastic surgeon. Excellently comic, with a pleasant baritenor voice who is confident with patter and complex rhythm.

CHAGALL – Age: indeterminate. Head of Viola’s household (and one of her clients). Handsome and well-built. He’s cool and mysterious. He enjoys wielding power as Viola’s right-hand man.

STEFAN – Madeline Ashton’s devoted assistant and confidant. He’d take a bullet for Madeline. Well, he’d push her out of the way and hope for the best. He’s cagey, hovers behind every door and knows where the bodies are buried — probably because he’s the one who buried them. Strong baritenor to G4.
