CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL (Broadway)
This is a production of the musical CATS reimagined within the context of the Ballroom Scene. The reimagination will take place at a Ball: a competition that, through multiple categories, invites an unapologetic celebration of the self. Please note that all characters in this production are human, not literal “cats”. All ages are suggestions to capture the character’s essence and their relationship to the scene. Gender identities mentioned in the character descriptions are to describe the characters; many roles may have flexibility with gender identities including throughout the show. Ballroom was created as a space for everyone, a world that celebrates authenticity, community, and self-expression. While not every character is listed as such, it is essential to this creative team that people of the global majority are represented across this cast. We are committed to building an equitable and inclusive company that reflects the fullness of the communities we serve. Artists of all racial identities, body types, gender expressions, and abilities are encouraged to audition.
Please note all roles specify singing or dancing and all roles will require some of both. In addition, all roles except the principal role of DJ, will also play ensemble parts, portraying multiple characters/competing in multiple categories. Any coverage assignments noted below are subject to change. Ballroom experience is a huge plus for any performers who can attend these auditions.
People of all genders and gender identities are welcome to audition for any role. The gender descriptions below refer to the characters, not necessarily the performers playing them.
