Cairoscene.com reports that the Egyptian theatre troupe Alam Mawazy (Parallel Universe) will perform THE DANISH EXPERIENCE, which puts a spin on the classic Shakespearean tragedy, Hamlet. The show will play from the 28 to the 30 at El Falaki Theatre on the American University in Cairo campus.

The show follows Karim, an aspiring actor whose family does not support his dreams. Against their wishes, Karim goes to an audition for the role of Hamlet. However, after the audition ends Karim cannot separate himself from the spirit of Hamlet, and becomes trapped in his character. His family is forced to find a solution to free Karim, and along the way, they could possibly free themselves of their own misconceptions that led to this curse in the first place.

Co-founder of Alam Mawazy, Nancy Alam ElDeen told cairoscene.com, "I want to give more opportunities to young actors. There needs to be a renaissance for the Egyptian theatre. And if this play has a good turn up, then we'll be able to produce even more plays in the future." She adds that the play was the idea of the director, and that the script was written during an improvisational workshop.

THE DANISH EXPERIENCE PLAY is directed by Salah Ihab, with executive directors Mohamed Osama and Mohamed Halwani. Set design is by Mohamed Zakaria, costumes by Amira Saber, music by Mohamed Khalfawi, and lighting by Dr. Bassel Mamdouh.
