This concert is a protest of the Defense of Marriage Act (otherwise know as DOMA). DOMA discriminates against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning people. It is discriminatory in that it defines marriage as between a man and a women in terms of social security and similar government benefits. This concert is to raise awareness of the inequities this legislation imposes on the LGBTQ community; inequities that are unnecessary and in need of termination. There will be a raffle held to raise money for the Roosevelt HS Gay-Straight Allaince to further benefit the LGBTQ community and it's advocates. This is another step towards equality; hopefully, DOMA will soon be a part of the past as will discrimination against LGBTQ individuals.
