Des Moines Community Playhouse Presents RAVE ON!, 4/27-28
Back by popular demand, the thrilling Billy McGuigan brings his high-energy, rock 'n' roll show "Rave On! The Buddy Holly Experience," to the Des Moines Community Playhouse for two shows only, Apr. 27-28. The tribute concert "Rave On!" includes Buddy Holly hits such as "Peggy Sue," "Raining in My Heart," "It's So Easy, "That'll Be the Day," and, of course, "Rave On." In an unexpected twist, Billy as Buddy celebrates the birth of the rock 'n' roll era by paying homage to fellow rockers Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper. "Rave On!" features a six-piece band and three-piece horn section that helps to ignite the stage and breathe new life into the music of Buddy Holly.
McGuigan first wowed Des Moines audiences as iconic rocker Buddy Holly in the 2003 Playhouse production of "Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story." He returned in 2008, after performing Buddy Holly nearly 400 times in theatres throughout the country, to reprise his role in the musical. McGuigan has received national attention and critical acclaim for his portrayal of Buddy Holly. The producers and writers of "Buddy" have named him the "preferred Buddy Holly" in the United States.
McGuigan took his "Buddy" success and developed his unique and exciting tribute show, "Rave On!" The Omaha World-Herald called the show, "A must-see for any rock & roll fan!" Tommy Allsup, Grammy award winner and lead guitarist for Buddy Holly, said, "'Rave On!' is the best Buddy Holly show out there."
The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
