The Des Moines Community Playhouse's most recent productions, "The Sound of Music" and "Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!," have entered the record books as what they have deemed "The Playhouse's most successful holiday season ever." Combined, the shows entertained 14,782 guests.
More than 9,000 people attended 23 public performances and 2 school matinees of "The Sound of Music," Dec. 2-30, 2011. The show was sponsored by Principal Financial Group.
"Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!" added four performances to its published schedule. Over 5500 people attended the 23 performances and four school matinees. "Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!" was sponsored by Sammons Financial Group.
The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
