Colorado Symphony Announces 2013/14 Season

By:

The Colorado Symphony today unveiled their 2013/14 season featuring a full nine months of Pops, the Inside the Score series, Family and Holiday concerts as well as 16 weeks of Masterworks programs. A Spotlight Series features the return engagements of Itzhak Perlman, Chris Botti and Joshua Bell and the newly added Classic Rock Series finds the orchestra at the Paramount Theatre presenting the music from Tommy, post-Beatle music of John, Paul, George and Ringo, and a tribute to Woodstock.

"To say that we are excited to present the upcoming exciting season of the Colorado Symphony would be an understatement. We feel that the diverse collection of concerts offers something for every musical taste while the Symphony remains committed to offering programs of excellence that entertain, enlighten and engage every audience. We also continue to expand our presence across the entire state through the presentation of our On Location programming that will be announced throughout the year," says Colorado Symphony Co-Chair and CEO, Jerome H. Kern.

The 2013/14 Masterworks series features concerts that span styles and centuries and offers works by well-known and innovative composers, celebrated guest conductors, master soloists, and six appearances by Colorado Symphony Artistic Advisor, Andrew Litton. Highlights include a season-opening premiere with Branford Marsalis; a collaboration with the Denver Art Museum; Andrew Litton's own edition of the American classic, Porgy and Bess; and the return of Handel's Messiah to Boettcher Concert Hall. Pianist Natasha Paremski, violinist Midori and cellist Paul Watkins are among the marquee artists who will appear in this signature series.

The Pops series showcases the wide-ranging skills of the Colorado Symphony and presents a variety of themes from the Symphony at the Movies series, which showcases the orchestra performing live film scores along with the movies, to Broadway favorites such as Wicked Divas and tributes to Sinatra and Garland. The return of Gilbert and Sullivan with The Pirates of Penzance promises to be a rollicking voyage at Boettcher Concert Hall. The popular Inside the Score and Family series take you beyond the music on one adventure after another to capture the imaginations of all ages. The popular Holiday concert series includes favorites such as Colorado Christmas, Too Hot to Handel and A Night in Vienna on New Year's Eve, and welcomes Brian Stokes Mitchell for A Broadway Christmas.
