BETC's Generations Conclude with FULL CODE Staged Reading at Shine Restaurant Tonight

By:

As part of an ongoing commitment to the cultivation of new theatrical work, the Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company (BETC) will present a staged reading of "Full Code" by David Valdes Greenwood. BETC's Generations new play development program features the work of parent playwrights with children under 18.

"Our Generations program features great new work and supports parent playwrights at a time in their careers when work-life balance is a challenge to creating art," says the company's literary manager, Heather Beasley.

David Valdes Greenwood is a Huntington Theatre Company Playwriting Fellow, three time Sloan Commission recipient at Ensemble Studio Theatre, and Brother Thomas Artist Fellow at the Boston Foundation. He has had plays presented at the Humana Festival, New York Theatre Workshop, Portland Stage, City Theatre, and elsewhere. His plays have been published by Samuel French and Broadway Play Publishing. Valdes Greenwood and his husband are the proud fathers of third-grade daughter Lily. He also details life as a blogger for the Huffington Post.

"I'm very excited to be welcoming a playwright of David's caliber into our Generations program," says Stephen Weitz, Producing Ensemble Director. "'Full Code' has extraordinary potential and we've assembled a wonderful team of artists to help bring it through its next phase of development."

In "Full Code" Callie's husband Sander is critically injured while she's on a work trip. Arriving at the hospital, Callie finds Lauren, a woman she's never met, already sitting vigil by Sander's side. Mixing memory, imagination, reality, faith, and desire, this unexpectedly funny play takes us inside the minds of a coma patient and the women who love him. When is it time to let life go? When do we hang onto love, regardless of the cost?

"Full Code" was the winner of our 2013-14 Generations new play competition. During Valdes Greenwood's May 2014 residency with BETC, "Full Code" will be rehearsed with a cast of professional actors, director, and dramaturg. The week ends with a play reading tonight, May 23 at 7 p.m. at Shine Restaurant in Boulder

BETC's Generations new play development program is made possible by a generous grant from the Sustainable Arts Foundation, and by support from Goff and Goff Ltd. and the Colorado Chautauqua Association. BETC is now accepting submissions for its Season Nine Generations residency competition. Please check our website for details.
