ED, DOWNLOADED plays The Ricketson Theatre 1/11-2/17

By:

A captivating story based on what is sure to be an eventual true story, Michael Mitnick's ED, DOWNLOADED premieres at the Denver Center Theatre Company (DCTC), playing The Ricketson Theatre January 11 - February 17, 2013. A DCTC commission, this world premiere was a staged reading at the 2012 Colorado New Play Summit. Tickets may be purchased now, by calling 303.893.4100 or visiting www.denvercenter.org.

Both live action and feature film, this intriguing comedy tells the story of Ed, who is dying. Given a chance at immortality, he has his brain downloaded and is allowed ten memories to take into eternity. But when his wife discovers what they are, she intervenes.

The cast of three includes debuting actors JD Taylor as Edward, Annie Purcell as Edward's wife, Selene, and Grace Rex as Marionette/Ruby.

Sam Buntrock who received a Tony and Olivier Award nomination for Best Director for Sunday in the Park With George debuts at the DCTC as director. Buntrock guides the audience through an incredible story while at the same time, challenging their memory. Set designer James Kronzer (To Kill a Mockingbird, The Catch, When Tang Met Laika) is charged with bringing the central idea behind the play to life - that of downloading a mind. To do this, he creates a set that is reflective of a "black box," conveying where Ed's memories are confined and creating double meaning. Megan Anderson Doyle (The Giver, Superior Donuts, Well) fashions sleek and clean costumes while lighting designer Brian Tovar (debut) complements the set with a futuristic style. Sound design is by Tyler Nelson. ED, DOWNLOADED is a play that relies heavily on projection to tell the story. Projection designer Charlie I. Miller (4 seasons/The Giver, American Night: The Ballad of Juan José, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer) drives the film creative, truly turning ED, DOWNLOADED into part film and part play. Utilizing new technology, the projections are displayed through Spyeglass (http://www.spyeglass.com), a cutting edge projection product. This special glass creates a futuristic yet believable feel to Ed's memories. Dramaturgy is by Douglas Langworthy (When We Are Married, The Three Musketeers (Playwright), Heartbreak House).
