Wilmington Drama League Kicks Off 2018 With DISASTER! The Musical

Wilmington Drama League will set sail in 2018 with the hit musical comedy, Disaster!., featuring direction by Nick D'Argenio (Wilmington Drama League's The Producers, A Few Good Men, 13: The Musical), with music direction by Matt Casarino (Delaware's dork rock duo, "Hot Breakfast") and choreography by Tommy Fisher-Klein.

Set on a floating casino, Disaster! uses hit songs of the 1970s to help tell the comedic story of a group of New Yorkers who gather to celebrate the opening night of the Barracuda, a floating casino and discotheque, in New York. Unaware of impending natural disasters, and the casino's lack of suitable infrastructure, the group find themselves in situations that mirror the plots of classic disaster films: killer bees, earthquakes, and tidal waves, just to name a few.

Disaster! is written by Seth Rudetsky (SiriusXM's Seth Speakes and Set's Big Fat Broadway), and Jack Plotnick, based on a concept by Seth Rudetsky and Drew Geraci. Disaster! was originally produced on Broadway by Robert Ahrens, Mickey Liddell/LD Entertainment, Hunter Arnold, James Wesley, Carl Daikeler, and Burba Hayes.

Disaster! Features the talents of Kori Beaman, Tricia Beichner, Sharon Brown, Ashley Bruce, Kathy Buterbaugh, Tony DelNegro, Jared DeStafney, Gina Dzielak, Paul Hayward, Alfred Lance, Dale Martin, Andrew Mitchell, Clayton Stacey, Christine Stief, Shefon Taylor, Brian Turner, Carol VanZoeren, Austin Whittington, and David Wills.

Disaster! features many popular songs of the 1970s including "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours", "Torn Between Two Lovers", "Don't Cry out Loud", "I Am Woman", and "Hooked on a Feeling" and received many accolades for its use of satire and music. The New York Daily News said that Disaster was a "spoof of catastrophe-themed movies mixed with '70s pop hits [and] gushes with Velveeta as well as laughs..." Charles Isherwood of The New York Times said that Disaster! "really earns that exclamation point."

Disaster! will have performances on Friday and Saturdays at 8:00 pm on January 26 and 27, 2018 and February 2 and 3, 2018. Additionally, matinees will take place on Sundays at 2:00 pm on January 28 and February 4, 2018 at Wilmington Drama League, 10 W. Lea Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19809. Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors/students and $10 for children. Seating is reserved and tickets can be purchased at the door beginning one hour prior to the start of the show.
