Possum Juniors' BYE BYE BIRDIE to Open 7/23

By:

Possum Point Players' youth affiliate, Possum Juniors are singing and dancing their way toward opening night of their production of the Tony Award winning musical, "Bye, Bye Birdie." Production dates for the family-friendly show are July 23, 24, 25 and 26. Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 P.M.; Sunday matinee at 2 P.M. Possum Hall is at 441Old Laurel Highway, Georgetown. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $12 for children and senior citizens. Seating is general admission, to purchase tickets, go to possumpointplayers.org or call 302-856-4560.

This full-scale production of "Bye, Bye Birdie" features more than 25 young actors from central and southern Delaware. It is directed by a "graduate" of Possum Juniors, Logan Lynch, now a student at Towson University. Logan designed sets and performed technical work and acted in shows with Possum Juniors, Possum Point Players as well as other community theatre groups before college.

Creating a frenzy of rock idol worship in Sweet Apple, Ohio, Conrad Birdie, blows into town to introduce a new song and plant his "Last Kiss" on a swooning fan just before he is drafted into the Army. The family of the luckiest fan ever isn't quite swooning at the prospect until they learn the kiss will take place on the iconic ED SULLIVAN show! Even if Conrad is rude and arrogant to his host family and he shakes his derriere too enthusiastically when he sings, the MacAfee's grow a little light-headed themselves as they imagine rubbing shoulders with the exalted Ed Sullivan.

Of course, whenever there is rock star kissing, ambitious talent agents, at least one pushy mama and an agent's pouty girlfriend, there's got to be some jealousy somewhere. Will the over-the-moon happy and kissable fan, Kim MacAfee get her kiss and will the agent's girlfriend Rosie get her guy? Kim's boyfriend and that girlfriend just might change the course of history in Sweet Apple and the rock world.

Teenagers and Birdie himself rock out in a secret hide-away, Shriners table their meeting to party on for a while, and probably, the right girls will end up with the right guys and even the parents might end up happy. "Bye, Bye Birdie" is fun, upbeat entertainment for all ages.
