Beavercreek Community Theatre Announces Their 2010-2011 Line Up

Beavercreek Community Theatre, with two shows remaining in the current season, is already gearing up for next season by announcing its show line up. The Dayton Power & Light Foundation, a supporter of BCT since 1997, will sponsor the 2010-2011 season.

"DP&L and our employees are so pleased to support the Beavercreek Community Theatre - what an opportunity for our citizens of all ages to be active and involved," said Ginny Strausburg, the executive director of the DP&L Foundation.

"We believe that the arts provide resources to help the economic growth of our region, as well as helping build strong educational institutions to help our young citizens who really are the future of our communities."

BCT has three production branches - Main Stage, Children's Theatre and Edge of the Creek Productions.

Main Stage shows are family-friendly as are the Children's Theatre productions, which feature talented youth through the age of 18. Edge of the Creek offers adult oriented shows, based on language and/or situations, and parental discretion is advised.

The 2010-2011 BCT schedule is:

Sept. 17 through Sept. 26 - Main Stage, "The Spitfire Grill," director Doug Lloyd, auditions July 5 and 6.
A feisty parolee, following her dreams and an old travel book, gets a job at Hannah's Spitfire Grill, the only eatery in the depressed town. When it won't sell, she suggests raffling it off in an essay contest. Things start cookin' when the mail starts to arriving.

Oct. 22 through Oct. 31 - Edge of the Creek, "Messiah on the Frigidaire," director Craig Smith, auditions Aug. 30 and 31.
What seems to be the image of Jesus appears on a refrigerator in a trailer park, setting into motion a frenzy of conflict, communion and good old-fashioned commerce. A front-page newspaper story turns the trailer park into a mecca for miracle seekers, soul searches and disciples with a decidedly political agenda.

Dec. 3 through Dec. 12 - Children's Theatre, "A Christmas Carol," director Teresa Connair, auditions Oct. 19 and 20.
Charles Dickens' classic Christmas tale is told from a new perspective - a young boy's grandfather, who uses the story of Ebenezer Scrooge to explain to his grandson why he would give his money away. It ends in a unique way, with a heartwarming surprise.

Jan. 28 through Feb. 6 - Main Stage, "The Octette Bridge Club," director Jim Lockwood, auditions Nov. 15 and 16.
This sentimental comedy follows eight sisters who meet to play bridge and gossip. It gives the audience a peek into their lives over a 10 year period, especially that of the emotionally distraught youngest sister.

March 11 through March 20 - Edge of the Creek, "Mid-Life: The Crisis Musical," directors John Falkenbach and Judy Varner, auditions on Jan. 3 and 4.
The "joys" of growing older are exposed through a series of scenes and sketches poking fun at the frustrations of mammograms, love handles, weekend warriors and proctology exams. It's a hilarious romp, with an honest humor, about the trials and tribulations of the unavoidable aging process.

April 8 through April 17 - Children's Theatre, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," director Teresa Connair, auditions Feb. 22 and 23.
The rabbit takes Alice on a journey into a world of talking animals, comic royalty and races where the contestants run in circles. There's the Mad Hatter's frantic tea party, the watch-carrying white rabbit and talking flowers. The play gives a modern view to an old classic, where nonsense makes quite good sense.

June 10 through June 19 - Main Stage, "The Mystery of Edwin Drood," director Chris Harmon, auditions April 18 and 19.
This wildly warm-hearted theatrical experience, featuring a loony Victorian musical troupe and a love triangle, centers on the disappearance of Edwin Drood. Has he been murdered and, if so, who did it? In a special twist, the audience decides the "who did it?" during intermission, promising an unusual and hilarious finale for each performance

All productions run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at the Beavercreek Community Theatre, located within the Lofino Adult Enrichment and Cultural Arts Center, 3868 Dayton-Xenia Road in Beavercreek.
BCT offers a Flex Pass, a season ticket for 3, 5 or all 7 shows. Three shows, of the patron's choice, are $37 for adults and $30 for seniors and students; five shows are $59 and $44 respectively. For all seven shows, the season pass costs $78 for adults and $60 for seniors and students.
The 2009-2010 season wraps up with "The Patchwork Girl of Oz," by the Children's Theatre, April 23 through May 2 and "The Who's Tommy," an Edge of the Creek production, on June 18 through June 27.
