The Staten Island Ballet Theater Inc

The Staten Island Ballet is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit now in its fourth decade, running a professional company and an affiliated school recognized by the New York City Department of Education and Department of Cultural Affairs for its arts education curriculum. Classes are taught by working theatre professionals during the academic year and in summer programs, in a conservatory-style environment that deliberately excludes recitals, dance contests, costume sales and similar commercial add-ons; many students train on full scholarships and others pay subsidised fees below commercial rates. Instruction covers classical ballet technique, pointe, character, modern, jazz, advanced partnering, mime and musical theatre, with adult and teen ballet classes from beginner to advanced and activity classes for seniors. Students regularly gain places at LaGuardia High School and the training programs of American Ballet Theatre, the Joffrey Ballet and the Kirov Academy, and the company presents an annual Nutcracker at the College of Staten Island.
