About this studio
Southwest Youth Ballet Theatre is a pre-professional ballet company in Chandler, Arizona, at 635 S. Alma School Rd., led by artistic director Yen-Li Chen. Established in 2005 and granted 501(c)(3) status in 2007, it is now in its twentieth season and run by the artistic director with an all-volunteer board. Company members are dancers aged 13 to 18 on contracts running August to June, and many go on to summer programs across the United States. Training centers on classical technique, artistry and pointe work. Its signature production is The Nutcracker at the Higley Center for the Performing Arts with live music from the Chandler Symphony Orchestra, a partnership dating to 2009; Nutcracker auditions open at age 7. Other activities include the Nutcracker Tea and end-of-season Celebration.
