NW Dance Project is a contemporary dance company and school based at its Creative Center and Studio, 211 NE 10th Ave, Portland, Oregon, now in its 23rd season under artistic director Sarah Slipper. The company performs an all-original repertoire created by established and emerging choreographers and tours beyond Portland. Its year-round Youth Dance Program trains dancers aged 4 to 18: Creative Movement for ages 4-5, a Junior Track running Primary Ballet through Level 4 for ages 6-16 with ballet, contemporary, jazz, pre-pointe, pointe and strength and stretch, and a Pro Track for ages 14-18 preparing students for companies, conservatories and college programs. Pro Track dancers may audition for the Young Creatives Company. Students perform in a Student Holiday Showcase and a Student Artist Showcase each year. Adults and teens can take accessible drop-in classes in ballet, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, conditioning and fitness, and the organization also offers private lessons, summer intensives, outreach and limited financial aid.
