About this studio
Krakusy Polish Folk Dance Ensemble is a Los Angeles-based Polish folk dance group that presents itself as an ambassador of Polish culture, performing for American and European audiences with colorful traditional costumes and authentic music. Its repertoire covers folk dances from regions and towns throughout Poland together with Poland's five national dances: the Krakowiak, Polonaise, Mazur, Kujawiak and Oberek. The ensemble maintains museum-style costume collections including the Noble Kontusz, Lublin folk and Krakow folk costumes, and has released recordings of its accompanying music. Membership is open to dancers of Polish origin, defined as having at least one Polish parent and being raised in Polish culture and language. The group marked its 70th anniversary with a jubilee concert and ball, and runs a charity carnival ball; donations support teaching opportunities for future Krakusy dancers.
