About this studio
Culture Shock Los Angeles is a non-profit hip hop dance troupe whose stated purpose is to cultivate self-worth, dignity and respect through music and dance. Its work has three strands: creating original performance pieces blending current and classic street dance forms, training students across Los Angeles in hip hop and street dance, and mentoring three apprentice dance companies that combine performance development with community service. Its education arm runs 10-week in-school or after-school residencies for grades K-8 taught by trained teaching artists, covering foundational movement, choreography, freestyle and hip hop history, with an optional student showcase. Programs align with California Arts Standards and are backed by the city's Department of Cultural Affairs.
