unMasqued Theatre Co. to Present Texas/Regional Premiere of WASTELAND
By: Tyler Peterson
Wasteland by Susan Felder will have it's Texas/Regional Premiere in Stage West's Studio Theatre August 20th-23rd before heading to the Rochester Fringe Festival in New York for a run September 22nd-25th.
The production will be directed by Jeffrey Schmidt (Best Director of 2013 by the Dallas Observer) and will star Co-Artistic Directors Drew Feldman and Ty Fanning. The play had its world premiere at TimeLine Theatre Company in Chicago, IL in 2012 where the Chicago Tribune called it, "A superbly directed production that progressively pulls you deeper and deeper into its carefully honed subterranean landscape. . . you come to see Wasteland, which is quite subtly written, as a kind of metaphor for political division. . . ". About the play: "An American soldier, captured by the enemy in Vietnam and isolated in an underground cell, hears a voice from the other side of his prison wall. . Separated by divergent backgrounds, opposing worldviews and solid ground, the two men battle loss of faith, dire conditions and each other. They strive to survive through humor, popular music, childhood games and Star Trek episodes. While we follow the struggle of both men, only one is seen onstage. An affirmation of the extraordinary power of human connection in even the darkest and most divided times."
unMasqued's first production, William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, opened last July (2014) in Los Angeles, CA to rave reviews before touring to The Mezzanine in Colorado Springs, CO in September (2014). Further tour dates for Wasteland are TBA.
