Theatre Three Presents Regional Premiere of PASSING STRANGE
By: A.A. Cristi
A fresh and exciting 2008 Tony Award winner from singer-songwriter and performance artist Stew, Passing Strange embarks on a journey across boundaries of place, identity and theatrical convention. The musical tells the story of a young bohemian who charts a course for "the real" through sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. Infectious, exhilarating, deeply spiritual and emotional, audiences will never forget Passing Strange!
"I am delighted to be working with a group of very talented artists in this regional premiere," says director vickie washington. "This production is a rock and roll concert + coming of age story + travelogue. We are creating an experience for the audience, full of dazzling lights, rocking sound and a little bit of fury...signifying everything! Passing Strange takes us on a fantastic and poignant journey in search of "the real" -- something each of us seek." Passing Strange is directed by vickie washington with musical directon by Pam Holcomb-McLain and choreography by Jamie Thompson. The musical stars Calvin Scott Roberts (Narrator), Darren McElroy (Youth) and Nikka Morton (Mother), Ayanna Edwards (Edwina/Marianna/Sudabey), Djoré Nance (Franklin/Joop/Venus), Quintin Jones (Terry/Christoph/Hugo) and Cherish Robinson (Sherry/Renata/Desi).
