Texas Ballet Theater to Perform Trio of Classics at Bass Hall

By:

Texas Ballet Theater (TBT), the only arts organization to serve as resident company for both leading performance venues in Dallas and Fort Worth, will perform Classic Combination at Bass Performance Hall, February 26-28, with accompaniment by Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. This mixed-rep features two Company premieres and one classic by George Balanchine.

Études, a Company Premiere

Harald Lander's Études is a tribute to dancing. The ballet follows the dancers from the basic five positions to the most difficult steps, from the daily hard work in the rehearsal studio to the most brilliant and elegant stage performance, showing the different sides of the art of Ballet, from pure, poetic allusion to the romantic ballet to sheer bravoura.

In the late Herald Lander's own words, "Études means so much to me, because this ballet is an expression for myself and for my thoughts on dance. Dancing is not just delivering some steps to the audience. The purpose of ballet is, increasingly so, to combine spirit, dance and music!"

The Concert (Or, The Perils of Everybody), a Company Premiere

This comedic ballet, choreographed by Jerome Robbins with composition by Frédéric Chopin, invites the audience to lose themselves in the dance and enjoy a few laughs.

Robbins' hilarious take on the would-be concertgoers unveils layer beyond layer of repeatedly humorous situations. Texas Ballet Theater's Artistic Director Ben Stevenson remarks that if you like West Side Story, you're sure to like The Concert, "...they're totally different, but equally brilliant."

Allegro Brillante

George Balanchine explained Allegro Brillante by saying "...it contains everything I know about the classical ballet in 13 minutes." The success of the ballet relies on the strength of the dancers, their quick and precise movements. The ballet is set to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 3, which is fast-paced and adds to the difficulty of the piece.

Tickets for Classic Combination are now available and can be purchased at www.texasballettheater.org or by calling the ticketing office at 877.828.9200 option 1.
