Tatiana John to Lead Music Theatre of Denton's SISTER ACT

By:

Music Theatre of Denton announces the cast for the first show of the 2017 season - Sister Act. Book by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, Music by Alen Menkin and Lyrics by Glen Slater. Based on the Touchstone Pictures film written by Joseph Howard. Directed by Eric B. Ryan, music direction by John Norine, Jr. and choreographed by Emily Leekha. Proudly sponsored by The Abbey Inn Restaurant and Pub, Denton, TX.

When disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.

Filled with powerful music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, Sister Act will leave audiences breathless. The cast is chock full of amazing roles for women of all ages (and men too!). A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, Sister Act is reason to REJOICE!

Tatiana John will be playing the lead role of Deloris Van Cartier. John is no stranger to the MTD stage and has performed in 2015 sold out run of The Addams Family. Several well known community members and theater divas round out the cast and bring the familiar on screen characters to life. Mother Superior is played by Patricia Sherman, Sister Mary Robert by Sementa Alldredge (Into the Woods, Shrek), Sister Mary Patrick by Brynne Huffman (Spamalot, Les Miserables, Into the Woods), Sister Mary Lazarus by Leigh Ann Stadt, Sister Mary of Martin-of-Tours by Cindy Maloney, and Sister Mary Theresa will be played by Barbara Catrett.
