WaterTower Theatre Producing Artistic Director Terry Martin today announced that noted special effects artist Steve Tolin will be part of the creative team for the Martin McDonagh black comedy, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, directed by Terry Martin. The production opens January 10 and runs through February 6, 2011 at the Addison Theatre Centre.
Steve Tolin is a special effects artist based in Pittsburgh, PA. He is the owner and operator of TolinFX, and has been creating special effects for the film, television, theatre, and fine arts industries since 1999. His film work includes the hit Tom Cruise motion picture Valkyrie, Bridge to Nowhere, Trapped and The Road starring Viggo Mortensen. His extensive stage work includes nine other productions of The Lieutenant of Inishmore at a number of regional theatres including Berkeley Repertory Theater and Center Theatre Group. He has also recently produced his first feature, a sci-fi action/adventure entitled, It Came From Yesterday. He was awarded the 2009 Joseph Jefferson Award for Special Effects for The Lieutenant of Inishmore at the Northlight Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.Martin McDonagh was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his first feature film, In Bruges. He already earned an Oscar for his short film Six Shooter, four Tony nominations for Best Play and England's prestigious Olivier Award for The Pillowman. The New Yorker places him on the highest plane of playwrights, pointing out that he's the "first dramatist since Shakespeare to have four works professionally produced on the London stage in a single season!"
