Frisco Community Theatre Announces Name Change, Slates 2017 Season with EVITA and More

By:

Frisco Community Theatre (FCT) has been bringing Frisco live stage productions since 1985. The road has not always been an easy one as FCT lost their performance space and was almost broke in 2007. At that time, Howard Korn took the leadership role of president and kept the theatre company alive by sheer determination until they moved into The Black Box Theatre in Frisco's Discovery Center in October of 2010. Since then, FCT has flourished, growing from six performances of each production to now ten performances. At first, FCT was "begging" actors to perform. Now actors from all over the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex (DFW) sign up well in advance to audition.

Frisco is one of fastest growing communities in North Texas, and FCT is striving to grow with it. Recently, the citizens of Frisco passed a bond election to build a new performing arts venue and FCT is working towards being a primary user of that facility. In the past year, they have appointed long time DFW theatre professional, Neale Whitmore, as their Artistic Director. They are paying the production team, cast and crew for performances. They are attracting audiences and talent from all over DFW. FCT is growing into a more professional theatre company.

At their Annual Meeting and Awards Gala on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, FCT announced changes which will impact their future. First, and most importantly, to reflect their outreach to the entire DFW area, FCT is changing their name to "Theatre Frisco." This change comes with a new, more user-friendly website, www.theatrefrisco.com. For the first time, Theatre Frisco will now have all reserve seating for their productions. And finally, the 2017 Season was announced:

Broadway Bound by Neil Simon, Feb 24 - Mar 12

Evita by Andrew Lloyd Webber, June 2 - June 18

Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley, Sep 29 - Oct 15

Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and Then Some) by James FitzGerald, John K. Alvarez, Michael Carleton, and Will Knapp, Dec 1 - Dec 17
