Amarillo Symphony Announces The Re-signing Of Music Director And Conductor Jacomo Bairos Through 2020-2021 Season

The Amarillo Symphony is pleased to announce the extension of Music Director and Conductor Jacomo Bairos's appointment with the Amarillo Symphony through the 2020-2021 season. This is Bairos's second contract renewal since beginning his position as the Symphony's 17th Music Director and Conductor in July 2013.

I am incredibly grateful and tremendously excited to extend my music director contract through the 2019-2021 seasons," said Jacomo Bairos, Music Director and Conductor. "Together we have built such an incredible legacy, commissioned amazing new works, engaged our community in unique ways, and have, through our amazing symphony musicians, performed relevant, powerful and exciting music. This new contract gives us the opportunity to continue all this great work for this community, which I have adopted and love so much!"

Sought after for his musical leadership and dynamic presence, Bairos has been in high demand with many orchestras, particularly those in Singapore, San Francisco, Leipzig, Los Angeles, Malaysia, Argentina, Mexico, and Portugal. In Amarillo, Bairos has been an enthusiastic advocate of local educational outreach opportunities, and through his passionate approach to musical programming has brought about the creation of several initiatives with the Amarillo Symphony: SymphonyKids, the Happy-Holiday Pops series, and Class Act.

"Jacomo has brought great excitement to the symphony performances through his youthful, innovative, and passionate style," Adair Buckner, President of the Symphony Board, notes. "We are thrilled that the Amarillo Symphony has been able to renew the contract of Jacomo as our Music Director, and we look forward to his leading us to even bigger and better musical heights during the coming seasons."

Under Bairos's leadership, the Amarillo Symphony has performed over 21 contemporary works that include the collaboration between Amarillo's immensely talented orchestra and some of today's most famed musical artists and soloists. The Symphony is excited to have Bairos continue to lead the orchestra as it heads into the 2019-2020 season, which will be announced later this month.

Founded in 1924, the mission of the Amarillo Symphony is enriching life in the Texas Panhandle through great orchestral performance and educational and community engagement. The Amarillo Symphony is the only professional orchestra in the Texas Panhandle and offers an array of successful youth educational programs in addition to regularly scheduled concerts.
