Segerstrom Center to Celebrate Dia de los Muertos with Free Party, Lila Downs Concert, 10/25

By: Oct. 23, 2015

Grammy Award-winning Mexican-American music star Lila Downs celebrates Dia de los Muertos on Sunday, October 25, 2015 with a special concert in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall at 6 p.m. As a prelude to Downs' concert, the Center is throwing a FREE Party on the Plaza with entertainment, dancing, food trucks and more.

- Cunyá at 4:30 & 5:30 p.m. - Puerto Rican bomba music for the 21st century. Cunya carries on the honored tradition of this unique music that evolved from the sugar plantations of the Caribbean. The masterful percussion, creative arrangements and passion are infectious and dancing is encouraged.

- Relampago del Cielo Grupo Folklórico at 5 p.m. - Recent winner of the Helena Modjeska Cultural Legacy Award for Outstanding Arts Organization from Arts OC, Santa Ana's Relampago del Cielo will perform traditional Mexican dances and music.

- Food trucks at 4:30 p.m. - Serving their specialties will be Scooter's Italian Ice, Mustache Mike's and Piaggio On Wheels.

There will be a traditional Di?a de los Muertos altar in the lobby of the concert hall and audience members will meet La Catrina, Mexico's grande dame of death. One of the many elaborate skeleton characters seen in Mexican art and lore, she will mix among the living in the Concert Hall lobby prior to the concert. La Catrina and Ms. Downs' dancers will lead the concert audience into the hall at 5:45 p.m. Admission to the lobby is limited to ticket holders only.

Tickets to Lila Downs start at $49 and are now available online at SCFTA.org, at the Box Office at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa or by calling (714) 556-2787. The TTY number is (714) 556-2746.
