JUNE

June 17 - June 19 : Nicholas Studio : SCR Studio Series

D IS FOR DOG

Rogue Artists Ensemble

In the seemingly innocent home of the Rogers family, life is like a 1950s sitcom-or is it? All is not as perfect as it seems. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers and their two darling children, Dick and Jane, must face their history and identity before it is too late, with only mysterious phone calls and a forbidden book as clues. D is for Dog explores the themes of family loyalty and compassion using iconic imagery from 1950s television blended with startling elements of horror and science fiction. Mixing puppetry, live actors, original music and video projection, the play takes audiences from the absurd to the terrifying, and everywhere in-between.

Performance Times: June 17 at 8 p.m., June 18 at 2 & 8 p.m. and June 19 at 2 p.m.

Tickets: $30, $20 Students

Fairy tales begin "once upon a time" and end "happily ever after." Not so fast! After all the dreams come true in this Tony Award-winning musical masterpiece, everybody returns to the woods for a reality check. Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (of beanstalk fame) and Rapunzel get tangled up with a bevy of other fairytale characters-and a few new ones created to add to the chaos-and discover the consequences of wishing for too much. Journey with SCR's Summer Players into a fantastical world where traditional fairytales take on fractured new lives and teach important new lessons. SEPTEMBER

September 9 - October 9 ? Segerstrom Stage

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

by Jane Austen

adapted for the stage by Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan

directed by Kyle Donnelly

One of the most popular novels in English literature comes to the stage in a lavish production centered on a bustling, enthusiastic-and discombobulated-family. They're the Bennets-the terribly silly but determined Mrs. Bennet, her bemused but doting husband and their five daughters, all of marriageable age. So imagine the stir when a wealthy young man and his handsome friend turn up in the neighborhood. The daughters are agog, with one exception. The beautiful (and independent) Elizabeth has no interest in the handsome (and enigmatic) Mr. Darcy, who is equally aloof. And that's what captures our imagination as we hope for love to triumph. It's so much fun!

Previews: September 9 - 15, opens September 16, closes October 9.

Tickets: $20-$66 (Previews $20-$46, Regular Run $28-$66). See last page for performance times.

"THEATRE MAGIC: The Black and White Ball" 2011 Gala

South Coast Repertory's annual fund-raiser constitutes the first and largest donation to SCR's Annual Fund, in support of education and outreach programs. From its early beginnings, the SCR Gala has been declared the traditional opener of the social and theatrical seasons, and the 2011 Gala will be no exception! In fact, this will be a season opener like never before, with a black and white theme that will carry over into the gowns, and possibly even masks. Those who love and support South Coast Repertory and its artistic contribution to the world of theatre will gather for this magical evening at the glamorous Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel, launching SCR's 48th Season in a celebratory way, with grand entertainment and the amazing J.T. and the California Dreamin' band providing dancing until midnight as partygoers connect with longtime friends, meet new ones and have a (Gala) Ball! Elaine Weinberg and her daughter, Nancy Dahan, are this year's Gala Ball chairs.

Time: 6 p.m.

Phone: Call (714) 708-5504 for information.

HOW THE WORLD BEGAN

by Catherine Trieschmann

directed by Daniella Topol

produced in association with Women's Project Theater

They have strong beliefs in Plainview, Kansas. And high school biology teacher Susan Pierce knows the score. A transplant from Manhattan, she arrived here with a desire to start a new life and a willingness to help out in the aftermath of a devastating tornado. Susan tries to tread carefully, but sometimes things fall out of her mouth willy nilly, like that offhanded comment in her biology class about the origins of life. Folks in Plainview get up in arms about that kind of thing.

Tickets: $20-$66 (Previews $20-$46, Regular Run $28-$66). See last page for performance times.
